Relative Calm / “Houdou Nisbi”

The first song selected to make this playlist: Houdou Nisbi; meaning relative calm in Arabic, by Ziad Rahbani in ‘85 Beirut during the Lebanese civil war. 
A controversial figure, who’s either loved or hated but never in between, Ziad combines sattire with pressing political and social topics that has made him a figure of socialist ideology in the Arab World. 
The playlist eventually took on a different melody with more recent and Western tracks.
